What is a Chronometer?
A Chronometer is a timekeeping device renowned for exceptional precision and a low deviation rate. These timepieces undergo rigorous testing and certification by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), a nonprofit organization established in 1978 to regulate watch manufacturing standards. They test watches for 15 days assessing performance in five positions, at three different temperatures. To earn the title of chronometer a mechanical watch must demonstrate a daily deviation rate of -4 to +6 seconds. Rolex and Breitling are their largest clients of the COSC which is a testament to their focus on precision.
