Cartier has stamped itself as one of the most iconic jewellery brands globally. Renowned for creations like the Tank, Santos, and Love bracelet, when you hear jewellery the name Cartier follows shortly after. Among their illustrious collection, the simple Juste un Clou bracelet stands out. Let’s talk about it.
Aldo Cipullo: The Man behind the Magic
Just two years after unveiling the legendary Love Bracelet, designer Aldo Cipullo’s creative juices were still flowing, giving birth to the Juste un Clou bracelet. Interestingly, Cipullo seemed to have a love for nuts, bolts, and screws which materialized in his design. It’s said that he would go to hardware stores and imagine how basic household items could be morphed into jewellery pieces. This fascination first transpired with the visible screws in the Love Bracelet, which have now become synonymous with the brand. He continued with this theme when designing the Juste un Clou bracelet, which translates to “Just a Nail”.
Unlike its predecessor, this piece was not an immediate hit. However, when Cartier reintroduced it in 2012, it quickly became a fan favourite. With current prices ranging from £3,450 soaring up to £354,000, this is considerably much more than the original range of $250 – $750. Today the collection has expanded to include rings, earrings, and necklaces becoming one of Cartier’s most successful creations.
Cipullo’s design philosophy is a lesson to all creatives. Complex ideas are cool, but often simplicity wins.
