Luxury watches and cars are two things that no one needs but everyone wants. But what happens when automotive excellence combines with the world of horology? Here are some standout collaborations between luxury car brands and watchmakers…
Tag Heuer Porsche
One thing Tag Heuer and Porsche have in common is their shared history in motorsport. Both brands drew on inspiration from the Carrera Panamericana race, producing iconic models in 1963—the Porsche Carrera and the TAG Heuer Carrera. The brands have worked in parallel adopting similar philosophies of excellence but eventually came together to create a collection of Carrera watches, including Gold and Steel versions as well as a smartwatch.
Richard Mille Ferrari
Richard Mille pulled out all the tricks when collaborating with Ferrari to create what was the world’s thinnest watch at the time. The RM UP-01 came in at a mere 1.75 mm thick, although the record has recently been broken by Bulgari. But this is not the only time that RM has collaborated with a car brand, they have also worked with Aston Martin and McLaren.
Hublot Ferrari
Ferrari have also collaborated with Hublot to create the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari and the Hublot Big Bang Ferrari.
Roger Dubuis Lamborghini
One of Ferraris biggest rivals, Lamborghini, has also ventured into the watch space with Roger Dubuis. Together, the pair have created 13 different watches, each available in very limited quantities.
Rolls Royce
In 2023, Rolls-Royce introduced the custom Droptail, some of the most expensive cars in the world, with price tags exceeding $30 million. These cars boast numerous iconic features, but the Amethyst and La Rose Noire models include a beautiful touch of horology.
The La Rose Noire features a one-of-a-kind AP Royal Oak Concept specifically made for this car. It serves as a car clock and can be removed to be worn as a watch.
The Amethyst version features a Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon. This piece is a pocket watch that sits on the dashboard of the vehicle.
Rolls-Royce is set to release one more version of the Droptail, so it will be interesting to see if they include another watch brand.
Bovet Rolls Royce
Before the Droptail series, there was the Rolls-Royce Boattail, a car many believe is owned by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, which sold for $20 million. It features unique his-and-hers timepieces from the luxury brand Bovet.
Jacob Buggati
Jacob & Co. and Bugatti are two brands that epitomize hyper-luxury. Since their collaboration in 2019, they have created three distinct lines: the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon, Bugatti Tourbillon, and Jean Bugatti.
The latest watch, the Bugatti Tourbillon, miniaturizes the high-performance Bugatti W16 engine and transforms it into a timepiece. Given the prestige of these brands, it’s no surprise that it comes with a price tag of $250,000.
Jaeger Le Coutre Aston Martin
Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin have collaborated to produce a line of watches named AMVOX. The name combines Aston Martin (AM) and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox (VOX). There have been over seven variations, including chronographs and tourbillons.
Breitling Bentley
Bentley and Breitling hold the title for the longest-standing luxury automotive and watch partnership. In 2002, the two brands joined forces, and their collaboration lasted 19 years. Although it ended in 2021, they produced a range of timepieces, with the Bentley Dashboard clock being one of the most iconic.
